This research was conducted with a focus on improving health service delivery at KCCA health facilities as a case study. This was achieved by seeking responses to three research questions, i.e. What are the determinants of health service delivery at the KCCA health facilities? What challenges could be affecting heath service delivery at KCCA health facilities? and What strategies can be adopted to overcome the challenges of health service delivery? This was a cross-sectional research design which applied a quantitative and qualitative research approach. The population comprised 45 respondents was considered with a sample of 40 respondents targeted. Data was collected using a closed-ended questionnaire and interview guide. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data and analyzed using a statistical package for social scientists (SPSS) software. The findings revealed that health service delivery at KCCA health facilities was still low in terms of quality, timeliness and client satisfaction. They for instance; take quality as an important aspect of health service delivery followed by timeliness and client satisfaction respectively. Regarding the challenges KCCA health facilities is facing to improve its health service delivery, it was found out that irregular flow of medical supplies from suppliers, a lot of corruption in the facility, inappropriate language by hospital staff with the patients, insufficient drugs and medical supplies, poor records management in this facility, shortage of human resources in the health facilities, and inadequate support supervision in this facility are key challenges that are affecting the KCCA health facilities. In the strategies for improving health service delivery it was discovered that purchasing modern medical facilities in health facilities, implementing the human resource motivation toward health workers, training health workers in service delivery, introducing of performance contracts for all health workers, adoption of digital health technologies, and recruiting, deploying and retaining higher-skilled health workers. These are important aspects of effective health service delivery that are necessary to be applied in the KCCA health facilities for improvement. The researcher recommends the purchase of modern medical facilities in health facilities, training of health workers, implementing the human resource motivation toward health workers, and recruit, deploy and retain higher-skilled existing health workers in the available health centers to improve service delivery.
