It was guided by three objectives aimed at; assessing the contribution of VSLAs to household asset accumulation, assessing the contribution of VSLAs in supporting of the establishment of income generating activities (IGA), and examining the extent to which VSLAs contribute to household food security. The study adopted a mixed method approach. A quantitative sample of 100 VSLA members were selected using systematic random sampling while the participants for the qualitative interviews were selected purposively. Data was collected using questionnaires, focus group discussions and key informant interviews. The collected data was analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative techniques. The study established that participation in VSLAs promoted access to credit and savings by members.
