dc.description.abstract | Introduction
E-learning is an innovative method of teaching that offers great opportunities to students(Lewis et al., 2014). There is a slow adoption of E-learning amongst students(Bigirwa, Ndawula, & Naluwemba, 2020). Those who enroll for the program, later opt out so this trend of slow adoption is likely to affect the Governments effort of improving midwifery skills and increasing the number of health workers in country(Mathivanan et al., 2021). Study Objectives: To explore student’s perception towards E-learning in MSNM Methods: An exploratory qualitative descriptive study was conducted among Nurse Students at NM. Convenience Purposive sampling method was used to recruit participants into the study. Data was collected through Focus group discussions, to gain in depth understanding of students attitudes towards E-learning. Analyzed by thematic approach. Results; 28 students of MSNM were recruited for the qualitative study between February 2022 and March 2022. All participants were female, with ages ranging between 20 years and 50 years. About students perceptions towards E-learning, findings showed that E-learning meant any form of education conducted online. On the other hand of student’s benefits, it was revealed that the majority of E- learning were interested in balancing studies, work and their family. Conclusion: E-learning is certainly the most effective option for students. And it can even be more effective than the traditional learning, when appropriate instructional methods are used. Most of E-learning programs in the Nursing schools are designed as extensions of the existing courses. This approach limits the quality of learning. It would be great if we approach it as an entirely new educational experience that embrace learners with soft skills and competencies in problem solving as well as in the application of information technology E-learning is sometimes based on principles of problem based learning. (Work it out yourself) Yet some students don’t have proper equipment. And often complain of motivation to make it. Thus increasing on the dropout rate. Recommendations
Training schools should have a policy for quality assurance for their strategic management. Should emphasize student centered learning, teaching, and assessment. To ensure that the program is delivered in a way that encourages students to take active role. Student admission, and progression. Nursing schools should support students in making responsible decisions. As this can control on the dropout rate. | en_US |
