A research proposal submitted to the Department of Construction Economics and Management in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of a Master’s Degree in Construction Management of Makerere University.en_US
This research investigates the effectiveness of Design-Build (DB) practices in managing budget and costs on construction projects, focusing on the case study of the Natural Products Research and Innovation Centre (NaPRiC) at Busitema University, Uganda. Through a comprehensive analysis of project documentation, interviews with key stakeholders, and a site visit, the study aimed to assess the impact of DB on cost control, collaboration, and project outcomes. The findings revealed that while DB can offer advantages such as early contractor involvement and improved communication, challenges like scope changes, delays, and unforeseen site conditions can still impact project costs. The research highlights the importance of effective project management, clear communication, and a well-defined project scope for successful DB implementation. By understanding the factors influencing DB's effectiveness, construction professionals and policymakers can make informed decisions to optimize project delivery and achieve better financial outcomesen_US
