dc.description | The’ Inevitable’ was painted in 2011. In this work, the artist looks at the journey women have made in different sphere of life including the ordination of women in priesthood. A very devoted catholic by faith, the artist strongly believe that, basing on what is happening elsewhere in the world, the ordination of women in the catholic church, much as it is being resisted by the church, is inevitable if the church is to become all inclusive. Moreover, women make up majority of the church goers and in many families globally, women have remained more faithful to the church teachings than men. Their inclusion in the church priestly ministry is long overdue. In this particular painting, the artist presents a seated woman wearing a collar holding what appears to be a baby priest standing upfront. This baby priest is also wearing a collar. The baby priest represents the current situation of priests in the church whose numbers are dwindling while the big seated woman represents the untapped potential of women who are ready to serve as priests but who have not been permitted by the church. | en_US |
